Diederik Boertien is a sociologist interested in issues related to family dynamics and inequality. Some questions that have been central to his research are: Why do higher educated and rich people divorce less than more disadvantaged individuals in Western societies today? Are resourceful parents able to prevent their children´s outcomes from being affected by a parental separation? And: How do family dynamics affect individual wealth, income inequality and wealth inequality? His findings on these topics have been published in journals such as the Journal of Marriage and Family, European Sociological Review, and Journal of Family Issues.
Diederik Boertien currently works within the ERC funded project ´EQUALIZE´ led by Iñaki Permanyer Ugartemendia (ERC-2014-STG-grant agreement No 637768). He received his PhD from Universitat Pompeu Fabra in 2013 and has been a Max Weber and Research Fellow at the European University Institute from 2013 to 2016.
